About the museum
Naturum Kosterhavet is the main entrance to Kosterhavet National Park and is located by Ekenäs quay on Sydkoster. The national park was established on 9 September 2009, is owned by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (Naturvårdsverket) and is managed by the County Administrative Board of Västra Götaland (Länsstyrelsen Västra Götaland). The park covers 38,900 hectares, of which 860 hectares are land, and aims to preserve a distinctive and species-rich marine and archipelago area.
The naturum has exhibitions, films and slide shows about the national park and the nature of the area. A touch tank lets visitors look at and touch animals from Kosterhavet. The exhibition has audio guides in Swedish, English, German and Arabic, and the texts are written in plain Swedish and English.
The naturum arranges guided tours, lectures and viewings, as well as walks on the beaches in the surrounding area. Here visitors can ask questions about the national park and get maps and other information. School classes are offered free lessons, both indoors and outdoors, for example discovery trips on the beach and walks on the islands.
