About the museum
The Linmuseet is run by Föreningen Bohuslin (Bohuslin Association) and is in the first farm in Kamstorp, about one kilometre north of Kville on the road towards Fjällbacka. The museum wants to show how flax was grown, processed and made into thread in Bohuslän, and the association grows its own flax on fields around Fjällbacka.
One part of the museum shows flax processing as a craft with old traditional hand tools. There is also a processing machine from the 1950s which, according to the tourist information, is probably the only one of its kind in Sweden. With it visitors can see how the flax is broken (bråkas), scutched (skäktas) and hackled (häcklas) before it is spun on the spinning wheel (slända).
The guides tell about the importance of flax and let visitors try the various steps themselves. The museum also has a small shop with linen products, hand-spun flax, linseed, linseed oil and hand-woven dishcloths. In the autumn the association holds Bråkkalas, a festival day when the retted flax is processed into spun flax by traditional methods.
