About the museum
Nordiska Travmuseet in Årjäng is the only museum of its kind in northern Europe. It lies on the public area of Årjängstravet, right by the E18 east of Årjäng, about 25 km from the Norwegian border. The basic exhibitions deal with the horse and the history of harness racing (travsport), and the museum also has a library of trotting literature.
The exhibitions include The History of Trotting in the Nordic Countries, Nordic Tracks and Major Races, Winning Shoes, The Stable Aisle, The Children's Corner, The Trotter's Equipment, The Development of Betting, The Origin and History of the Horse, and the Dressmobil with Nordic derby winners. The museum strives to make the exhibitions interesting for all ages and to make new ones interactive.
The museum also houses the Trotting Sport Hall of Fame, a collaboration with Svenska Hästsportjournalisters Klubb and Norske Travjournalisters Klubb, to which some of the sport's personalities have been elected each year since 2007. A few times a year temporary exhibitions are shown. The museum also has a shop and an ATG agent, as well as a restaurant and conference rooms.
