About the museum
Mosstakan school was built in the 1920s and served as a small village school and public primary school for southern Järnskog until 1964. Since 2001 it has been a school museum showing the school environment of the 1920s with many period objects. The school lies south of Koppom in Eda municipality and is looked after by Mosstakans Samlingslokal (community hall association).
The museum has two classrooms preserved as they looked in the past, with a teacher's desk (kateder), old school benches and an organ. The blackboard on which the teacher wrote with chalk is still there, as are school posters, old school books and other teaching materials. On the ground floor there was a crafts and gymnastics hall, where planing benches and tools can be seen today. On the upper floor were the kitchen and dining room, and there is also equipment from chemistry and physics experiments, as well as material for teaching handicrafts (syslöjd).
Outside in the yard is an outdoor privy that recalls how daily life at a rural school was organised.
