About the museum
Olle Nyman (1909–1999) was a painter, sculptor and textile artist and grew up in Saltsjö-Duvnäs, where the family had owned the farm since 1863, when Olle’s maternal grandfather bought the headland, known as Dufnäs gård. His father, Hilding Nyman, was an artist and illustrator and had close contact with artists such as Anders Zorn, Carl Larsson and Albert Engström. His sister Kajsa Nyman was a milliner who made ladies’ hats.
In the 1950s Olle began, together with Kajsa, to rebuild the house that is now the museum. Olle and Kajsa decided during their lifetimes that the garden, the houses and the studio should be preserved as a foundation. Olle died in 1999 and Kajsa in 2001. Since 2007 the house and studios have been a museum and art hall. Olle’s studio has been left untouched since his death, and his clothes still hang on the hook by the door.
Today the site is managed by Syskonen Kajsa och Olle Nymans kulturstiftelse (the Kajsa and Olle Nyman Siblings’ Cultural Foundation) in cooperation with Nacka Municipality. The artist’s home and the Old Studio (Gamla ateljén) can only be visited by guided tour. In the New Studio (Nya ateljén) art by contemporary artists is shown during the summer half-year, and in the house that once held the sculpture workshop there is a restaurant. During the winter half-year there are activities for children and young people as well as courses.
