About the museum
Orsa Jernvägsförening (Orsa Railway Association) is a fully non-profit association. According to its statutes, it is to look after the Orsa engine shed so that its function and cultural-historical value are preserved, manage vehicles and other property in working order, run railway traffic with a museum focus, and promote Orsa's cultural heritage as an important railway town.
The association has several preserved rail buses from the 1950s, including the Y8 1124, built by ASJ in Linköping and delivered to SJ in 1957. It is in good, untouched original condition and is part of the national conservation plan for railway vehicles. There is also the rail bus Y6 1086 from 1956 and a liftmotorvagn, formerly Y6 1082.
On occasion the association runs museum trains with its rail buses from Orsa on the Inlandsbanan and on to the Älvdalsbanan. In autumn 2019, among other trips, there were journeys between Mora and Lomsmyren and a nostalgia trip on the Inlandsbanan between Mora, Orsa and Sveg. On Sunday 18 October 2026, a nostalgia trip on the Älvdalsbanan between Orsa and Morastrand was fully booked.
