About the museum
The history of Zorngården begins in 1886, when the 26-year-old Anders Zorn bought a plot beside Mora church and moved there a small log cabin from his maternal grandfather's farm in the village of Yvraden. Over the following decades the cabin was extended and altered in stages, particularly after the Zorn couple moved home from Paris in 1896 and settled permanently in Mora. The artist designed it himself. Around 1910 the house was completed in the form it has today.
The home was shaped by local building tradition and English Arts and Crafts, and became a place of rich social life, where guests included Prince Eugen, Carl and Karin Larsson, Albert Engström and Erik Axel Karlfeldt. In the unusually furnished rooms, art and arts and crafts from various places are mixed with kurbits and Dalarna traditions: woven tapestries, antique marble sculptures, paintings by older masters and furniture that Zorn designed himself. Especially well known is the Stora rummet (Great Room) on the upper floor, with a ceiling height of nine metres, and the garden with some of Zorn's own sculptures among rose hedges, peonies, kitchen plants and fruit trees.
When Emma Zorn died in 1942, Zorngården passed to the state as part of the couple's donation. The farm was opened to the public the same year. Today it is part of the Zornsamlingarna (Zorn Collections) and is visited on guided tours.
