About the museum
The foundation of Zorns gammelgård was laid in 1914 by Anders Zorn, who had by then begun buying up old cottages, storehouses (härbren) and other traditional buildings. After his death in 1920 the work was carried on by Emma Zorn and the art historian Gerda Boëthius, the first curator of the Zornsamlingarna (Zorn Collections).
Today the open-air museum consists of about forty buildings that together form Sweden's foremost collection of older log houses. They are grouped in a home village (hemby), a home fäbod (summer pasture), a mill farmstead (kvarntun) and a long fäbod (summer pasture), with a few boathouses. Here is also the country's oldest secular log house, dated to 1237. Two buildings have been restored with support from funds for local heritage farms: Bergkarlåsladan (barn) from the early 1300s, which holds parts of Zorn's collection of folk objects, and the dwelling house Östnorstugan from around 1683–84.
Beside the old farm, the Textilkammaren was built in 1993, designed by the architect Anders Landström and awarded the Träpriset (Wood Prize). It shows parts of the Zorns' collection of folk textiles and folk costumes from the Siljan district, from förlåtar (traditional head coverings) and hair ornaments to everyday and festive costumes. The Textilkammaren also has a small shop. In summer the Tidsresan (Time Journey), dramatised outdoor tours for all ages, is held.
