About the museum
Between 1904 and 1906 Anders Zorn created Gopsmor by the waters of the Österdalälven river, between Mora and Älvdalen, as a refuge of older log houses. Here the cottages served as both a wilderness studio and a fisherman's cottage, and Zorn could withdraw to live simply, without the comforts of Zorngården (his home in Mora). Now and then he brought friends such as Bruno Liljefors and Albert Engström, and now and then he treated the district's young people to dancing to a fiddler's music. Women who ran the household also posed for him.
Some of Zorn's best-loved paintings were created at Gopsmor, for example Dans i Gopsmorstugan (Dancing in the Gopsmor Cottage) and Vattna hästen (Watering the Horse), both of which hang in the Zorn Museum (Zornmuseet). When the Österdalälven river was regulated in 1970 in connection with the construction of the Spjutmo power station, the original site ended up under water. The cottages were then moved to a new site that closely resembled the old one, and Gopsmor was rebuilt as it had looked before.
Gopsmor is part of the Zorn collections. The site can be visited in summer and autumn, but you cannot go into the houses. On selected summer days a programme is held, and the surroundings are suitable for a picnic basket (fikakorg).
