About the museum
Risten–Lakviks Järnväg is a narrow-gauge museum railway with a track gauge of 600 millimetres, starting from Lakvik between Åtvidaberg and Björsäter. The line is laid on the embankment of a narrow-gauge railway with a track gauge of 891 millimetres that was closed in 1964, the Norsholm–Västervik–Hultsfreds järnväg. Its predecessor, the Norsholm–Bersbo Järnväg, was built in 1878, among other things to carry charcoal from the forests of the area to the blast furnaces at Finspång, and was opened in 1880 by King Oscar II.
The museum association bought the Risten–Lakvik section in 1971, before the tracks were lifted, and the construction of the museum railway began the same year. Today the line is about two kilometres long. The present Lakvik station was moved by the association in 1987 from Bersbo, and the goods warehouse, which is used as a workshop and wagon hall, was moved from Åtvidaberg in 1997.
The collections include steam locomotives, among them RLJ 2 A. Dahl and RLJ 3 Lakvik, both built in 1925, as well as compressed-air locomotives and about ten diesel, petrol and electric locomotives from various works and industries. There are also two passenger carriages from the end of the 1850s, Sweden’s oldest preserved, built for the Adelswärd barony in Åtvidaberg. On summer operating days trains run and a café is open in the station building. The railway is run by a non-profit association.

| Good to know | The trains are normally pulled by steam locomotives, but in dry weather, or if the 100-year-old locomotives develop mechanical problems, diesel locomotives are used. |
