About the museum
The ryggås cottage in Åshult dates back to the 18th century, perhaps even to the 17th century. It is well preserved and shows the conditions in which people lived at that time.
The cottage previously stood on the village common (byallmänning) at Tega. The soldier Petter Andersson Åhs, born in Sparlösa in 1793, came to Åshult in 1818 and was discharged in 1837. He then bought the cottage, which was taken down and carted to Åshult with borrowed oxen, where it was set up again. The same year he moved in with his wife and son Anders.
The cottage lies by the road between national road 47 and the road between Helås and Flakeberg, and is cared for today by Ryda local heritage society.
