About the museum
Eklundsstugan is the childhood home of Bishop Johan Alfred Eklund (1863–1945), son of a tailor. The home is described as simple, poor and strictly religious. Through the revivalist movement of the 19th century Eklund’s interest in becoming a priest was awakened, and he was ordained for the Diocese of Skara in 1892.
Eklund was Bishop of Karlstad from 1907 to 1938 and is best known for his hymn writing, including the hymn “Fädernas kyrka”. The cottage and barn have been owned by Ryda local heritage society since 1938 and are preserved in their original condition, just south of the village of Helås.
The site is intended for a quiet visit; visitors may bring their own coffee (fika).
