About the museum
Lomkällan in Särna is a forestry and defence museum that shows the district's natural and cultural heritage and life on the borderland with Norway. The museum is run by Särna Local Heritage Society and lies by Riksväg 70 (national road 70), a few kilometres north of Särna towards Idre.
The open-air museum shows huts from the whole era of forest workers up to mechanisation in the 1960s and 1970s. The site also contains a fully preserved battalion redoubt from the Second World War, Skans 211, with larger models of defensive and combat obstacles. In the exhibition hall Skogshalla there are exhibitions on, among other things, Sweden's wartime emergency years (beredskapstiden) and the railway era, and a newer exhibition is about Joles Pelle.
Visitors can watch films about the ski star Särna-Hedlund, the district's strongman Stor-Per Svensa and the wartime emergency years in Särna. There is also a café on the site.
