About the museum
Severin Nilson (1846–1918) was born in Asige in southern Halland and became a painter, draughtsman and one of Sweden’s first documentary photographers. He trained at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm and in Paris, and devoted much of his life to depicting the Ätra valley and life in Asige with both brush and camera.
Björsgård, which he bought in 1885, was fitted out as a studio and as his birthplace. The studio cottage has been preserved in its original condition and holds photographs, paintings and drawings. The building, constructed in skiftesverk (traditional Swedish timber construction) around 1853, was declared a listed building in 2018 and is owned by Asige hembygdsförening (Asige Local Heritage Society).
The cottage is shown to the public on special occasions, above all during the Falkenberg Ecomuseum Days on the first weekend of August.
