About the museum

Skåne-Smålands Järnvägsförening (Skåne-Småland Railway Association) was formed in Strömsnäsbruk on 28 May 1986 to save as much as possible of the railway environment along the old private railway Skåne-Smålands Järnväg, which ran from Kärreberga in Skåne to Värnamo in Småland, with its main station and engine sheds in Strömsnäsbruk. One of the association’s main aims is to run museum trains for the public.

In June 1986 the first rail bus was bought, a Y7 motor coach from the 1950s. On 13 September 1986 the association ran its first museum train, between Traryd and Strömsnäsbruk in connection with Markaryd’s market, and almost 2,000 passengers travelled on it.

The association has a traffic permit to run on its own track and follows the same rules as other railway companies. Today it owns the station buildings and engine sheds in Strömsnäsbruk and Traryd with the surrounding plots. The station building in Strömsnäsbruk has been renovated, the smaller yard by the engine sheds has been rebuilt, and a turntable is in place. On the station site stands a steam locomotive and a replica of a passenger carriage from the narrow-gauge line Strömsnäs–Delaryd. The collection includes rail buses, locomotives, passenger carriages, and work and goods wagons.
