About the museum
Torpa Buss- & Teknikmuseum (Torpa Bus and Technology Museum) is run by the non-profit association Torpa Bystuga & Omnibus (Torpa Village Hall & Omnibus). The association was formed in spring 1986, when some veteran car enthusiasts in Torpa proposed guided bus trips to strengthen the community in a village of just over 400 inhabitants. The proposal was received positively, and a Reo from 1930 was found that had stood still in a cowshed since 1939. The bus was renovated over several months, inspected and put into service.
The village hall (Bystugan), the village's meeting place, was built entirely voluntarily by five work crews. The guided bus trips started from there and went around the district around Torpa, often ending with coffee or dinner.
The museum began as a pure bus museum, but its range has grown over the years. Today, in addition to veteran buses, cars, mopeds, motorcycles, chainsaws, boat engines and many hot-bulb engines (tändkulemotorer) are shown. Among the recreated environments are a taxi station from the 1950s and a bus stop. In 2013 work began on building a petrol station and a café in 1950s style. The collection is continuously expanded with vehicles and engines that the association restores or receives as gifts.
