About the museum
The museum is located at Segersta homestead museum (Segersta hembygdsgård) and depicts the last century of log floating in Hälsingland. At Mårdnäs, where the Ljusnan flows into lake Bergviken, lay one of the largest sorting points of the floating. Log floating on the Ljusnan lasted for about 110 years and was discontinued in 1967.
In the exhibition the visitor can follow the path of the timber from the forest to the sawmills, through many photographs and narrative texts. Tools from forestry work and floating are also shown, along with the artistically carved model series “Från träd till planka” (From Tree to Plank) by Albin Åsenlund. The nature photographer Hilding Mickelsson’s slide show complements the exhibition, and nearby there is an exhibition on the history of the bridges in Segersta.
The museum is run by Segersta hembygdsförening (Segersta Local Heritage Society) and is part of the Skogsriket network, an association of forestry museums in Sweden.
