About the museum
Smörhöga is an old farm outside Grimslöv in Alvesta Municipality, and its list of tenants (brukarlängd) goes back to 1652. The farm has a connection to Huseby ironworks: in the 17th century Antonio Tournier came from Belgium to Smörhöga to help the works with charcoal.
The farm museum has been built up by the present owner, Sven Johansson, who for several decades has collected farming and agricultural objects. The collection shows how agriculture has developed from earlier times to the present. Among other things, there is a photograph of the hunting party that shot the first licensed elk hunt in Kronoberg County.
The museum is run by the Johansson family together with the farm’s restaurant, café, farm shop and pitches for motorhomes. The café and restaurant are in the old potato and grain store from 1872, which was rebuilt in 2011.
