About the museum
Sösdala hembygdsmuseum is run by Sösdala Hembygds- och Fornminnesförening (Sösdala Local Heritage and Ancient Monuments Association), founded in 1952. The association looks after Holegården (also spelled Hålegården) in Norra Mellby and a school museum with a poorhouse (fattigstuga) from the early 1800s.
Holegården originally came from Matteröd and was moved by the local heritage society to Norra Mellby in 1965. On the farm are shown tools from the district's craftsmen and implements from older households, among them clog making (träskotillverkning), cart and smithing tools, and fittings from Rosenlunds iron shop. The most striking is the workshop of master cooper (tunnbindarmästare) Nils Hansson, with its equipment. Vannarödsstugan, originally at Vannaröd's old crossroads, was moved to the farm in 1987.
In the old school building, standing on the walls of the poorhouse, a schoolroom, a teacher's residence and the poorhouse itself are displayed. The poorhouse was built in 1816 and used until 1900, and the schoolroom came with the elementary school regulation of 1842 (folkskolestadgan).
