About the museum

The file factory in Hässleholm was started in 1917 by the brothers Olof and Johan Svensson, who already had a factory in Osby. After the mass production of the First World War, the company went bankrupt in 1919, and in the following years operations alternated between expansion, new bankruptcies and leases. In 1937 the master craftsman Karl Adamsson rented the factory, and in 1940 he bought the whole business with the help of his sons.

The family ran the company until it closed in 1986. New production ceased early on, and the business concentrated on recutting used files. The year after the closure, the property and fittings were donated to Hässleholm Municipality, which had Västra Göinge local heritage society (hembygdsförening) take over the machines, stock and equipment.

The building stood empty for many years but was restored with support from the county administrative board (länsstyrelsen) from 2006. The members of the local heritage society have since renovated the machinery park so that partly belt-driven machines can be demonstrated. In a former storage building, pictures from the operation and a film from the 1970s are shown.
