About the museum
Västra Göinge hembygdsmuseum is run by Västra Göinge hembygdsförening (local heritage association) and first opened in 1932. The museum building was erected around 1847 as a dwelling house for a farm in Läreda village in Stoby parish. The farm lay where Stadsparken is now, and in the building the municipal intermediate school (mellanskola) and technical school of Hässleholm later had their first activity. In 1932 the house was moved to Hembygdsparken (the heritage park), and ten years later it was extended.
Over the years a lot of local material has been collected, and the focus has gradually shifted towards the urban area of Hässleholm, especially the old town. During the pandemic some sections were rebuilt and made more accessible, and the basement level is being put in order.
The museum has permanent exhibitions on Skåne's history from the last ice age to the Middle Ages, old tools and implements, and small workshops for craftsmen. Most of the production of the wood carver Nils Karlsson from Ballingslöv is also shown there. A special room is used for temporary exhibitions.
