About the museum

Edsbro hembygds- och föreläsningsförening (Edsbro Local Heritage and Lecture Association) was formed in 1934. A few years later, in 1937, the association decided to buy Uppsalabacken, a central plot with well-preserved old fields that had previously been used as a muster ground for recruits. The place was given the name Åsavallen, and the purchase was completed in 1938.

On the site the association has set up buildings that have been moved here from different parts of the parish, most of them as gifts: among them a loft storehouse (loftbod), the parsonage storehouse (prästgårdsboden) from 1833, a rusthållarbod (a storehouse of a rusthållare, a crown-allotment holder) and Björksättragården, a croft from the 17th century. The spinning-wheel turner's workshop (Spinnrocksvarvarverkstaden) came here in 1944–1945 from Lågrudan in Bro and is the farm's most notable attraction; according to the association it is probably the only preserved workshop of its kind in the country.

There are also collections that tell of schools, the post, the smithy and the railway in Edsbro. The area has about thirteen buildings and is used both as a museum environment and for gatherings and events.
