About the museum
Överjärva gård in northern Solna is a well-preserved farm environment in the Igelbäcken nature reserve. In the 1600s there were two farms in the village that were leasehold farms under Ulriksdal Palace. In 1790 they were merged into a single farm unit named Överjärva gård, and at the same time a new main building was erected. At the farm there is a burial ground from the Late Iron Age, which shows that people have lived here for over a thousand years.
In 2023 Solna City decided to develop the farm into an open-air museum. On Saturday 5 September 2026 Överjärva gård was inaugurated as an open-air museum. The story of the farm stretches from prehistoric times to the present, with a particular focus on the people who lived and worked here, from statare to gentry.
Today visitors can see the Statarlängan (the statare row) with a museum flat whose furnishings are based on interviews with former residents, as well as the outbuildings of the statare row. The cowshed has a new exhibition on life on the farm about a hundred years ago, with a particular focus on women’s conditions, and a play environment where children and adults can try tasks from a dairy farm. Gula villan (the Yellow Villa), from around 1870, which was a residence until 1997, is now a farm café with a historic garden. The farm works closely with Solna naturskola (Solna Nature School).
