About the museum
Sundbybergs stadsmuseum is run by Sundbybergs hembygdsförening (Sundbyberg Local Heritage Society), which has collected and looked after objects, documents and photographs about the town's history since 1934. The collections have been built up through tens of thousands of hours of voluntary work and through gifts from other associations, organisations and private individuals.
The museum at Fredsgatan 4 has a permanent exhibition that portrays the town's development from prehistoric times onwards, with, among other things, Vikings, inventors, industries and settlers. In the Viking room is the skeleton Hildur from the Stone Age. The exhibition can also be visited digitally as a 360° tour. The society also has an extensive archive, including association records, building records, personal archives and photographs from the 19th century onwards.
Sundbyberg town has terminated its agreement with the local heritage society, and the museum's future after 2026 is uncertain. The society plans to transfer its document and image archives to other organisations and has announced that the exhibition can be seen at the museum and digitally up to and including 2026.
