About the museum

Stigbergets Borgarrum (Stigberget Middle-Class Rooms) is a museum flat at Fjällgatan 34 on the heights of Södermalm, created by Anna Lindhagen (1870–1941). She was a politician and champion of, among other things, women’s suffrage and allotment gardens, and she was committed to preserving older buildings in Stockholm. She wanted to show how a middle-class family could live in the mid-1800s. To manage the museum she formed Föreningen Stigberget (the Stigberget Association) in 1929, which has held tours and culture evenings ever since.

The flat has six rooms and a kitchen and is furnished by Anna Lindhagen, partly with objects from her own home. In the last years of her life she lived herself in two of the rooms. A special highlight is a doll’s cabinet from the later part of the 1800s.

The museum is run entirely voluntarily with support from Stockholm City. The premises are also used for culture evenings and can be hired for smaller gatherings and parties with a view over the city.
