About the museum
Ersta diakoni museum opened in 1983 and is the memorial of Ersta diakoni. The museum tells the story of women's history, pioneering, diakonia and dedication, beginning in the mid-19th century. Ersta diakoni has worked with people since it was founded in 1851, and among the women behind the Ersta diakonisällskap (Ersta diakoni society) are Marie Cederschiöld, Fredrika Bremer and Jenny Lind.
The museum is located in the north gatehouse, inside the vault at Erstagatan 1M. The exhibition “I starka kvinnors sällskap” (In the Company of Strong Women) depicts the history and present of Ersta diakoni, weaving together women's history, medical history, social history and church history, with historical pictures, films, authentic objects, soundscapes and texts.
In the entrances to Ersta hospital there is also a historical exhibition which captures past and present in twelve snapshots, with an audio guide in Swedish and English.
