About the museum
Sundsbergs gård was built in the 18th century by Olof Antonsson, and it is the model for the farm Björne in Selma Lagerlöf's novel The Saga of Gösta Berling. The main building was destroyed by fire in 1893, and the family then moved into the wing, which today is the farm museum. The farm's last private owners were the dentist Tore Sjöqvist and his wife Birgitta, who lived in the wing until a new main house was completed in 1978.
The Stiftelsen Sundsbergs Gård (Sundsbergs Gård Foundation) was formed in 1976 with the task of preserving the farm and keeping it open to the public. The farm was donated to Sunne municipality, and more buildings were added later. Today the activities are run by the foundation together with the friends' association (vänförening).
There are several museums on the farm. The farm museum shows rooms such as the storstuga (great room), the salons, the Jugend room and the office. The textile chamber (Textilkammaren) shows clothes and textiles from the Sjöqvist family, the dental museum is Tore Sjöqvist's relocated practice, and the forestry museum shows tools and environments from older forestry. In the old cowshed there is an art hall, a café and a craft shop, and premises are rented out for parties and gatherings.
