About the museum

Svanskogs hembygdsgård lies near the centre of Svaneholm in Svanskog and is run by Svanskogs hembygdsförening (Svanskog Local Heritage Society), which describes itself as a bearer of culture that gathers the district. The old main farmhouse (mangårdsbyggnad) from the 18th century burned down in 2019, and the main building is therefore entirely newly built.

Several rebuilt buildings stand on the farm. Among them is a general store from the 19th century moved here from Hallanda, a cobbler's workshop in untouched condition, and a farm smithy from Leverheden.

Many visitors come here when the traditional midsummer is celebrated. The local heritage society also arranges courses, music events and other activities.

Getting there & parking

The homestead is on the left at the start of the village. From E45 at Åmål follow the signposting towards Svaneholm/Svanskog, about 17 km; from E18 at Rudsbyn in Långserud it is about 10 km. At the midsummer celebration you can park at Folkets Hus (the People's House), from where a tractor with a trailer runs to the homestead.
