About the museum
Tollebols kvarn is an intact water mill from the 1870s, with preserved water wheels, a water chute and a mill pond, situated at one of the Åmålsån river’s waterfalls about two kilometres west of central Åmål. The site has roots going back to the Middle Ages, and from the 1200s to the late 1900s grain from the farms in the surroundings was ground here.
The mill is owned by Åmål Municipality and cared for by Åmåls västra byalag (the western village association of Åmål). It is a listed building and underwent a careful refurbishment in 1981. On the site there are several buildings that reflect the craft and the miller’s family’s life a hundred years ago, including the mill, a smithy, a stable, a cowshed and an earth cellar.
Today there is a museum with animals, tools and stories about the seasonal work on a farm. In the old barn there is a general store with local products such as the mill’s own flour, nature-pasture meat, jam and honey. In summer the mill also works as a café with waffles and klengås (a traditional sweet pastry), and there are games and outdoor activities for children on the site.
