About the museum
Thunströms köpmansgård lies along Slaggatan in central Falun, between Stora torget and Kung Gustafs torg, and is an authentic trading house with a shop and living quarters. The trading house is part of the Falun World Heritage site. The business was run by Erik Thunström from 1897 until the mid-1940s. The sons then inherited the property, which fell into disrepair, until the merchants' association in Falun took it over and it was eventually transferred to the Falun Culture Committee (kulturnämnden).
The property was renovated in the early 1990s and today is open in summer. Visitors can join a guided tour of the living quarters, buy old-fashioned sweets and toys in the shop, and have fika in the garden café in the leafy inner courtyard, where there is home-baked fika and home-made ice cream. In summer, theatre performances and concerts are held in the barn in the inner courtyard.
