About the museum
Torsångs hembygdsförening (Torsång Local Heritage Society) was founded on 9 April 1928 and got its first building in 1931. The homestead was inaugurated in 1952. It lies attractively between Prästtjärn and Lillälven on the road out towards Sunnanö, near the church, the parish hall and Torsångs Café. The setting is shaped by the district's history as a farming area and by its proximity to the copper mine.
Several buildings on the site have been moved here from other parts of the district: a parstuga (double house) that was a miller's farm from Ornäs (1700s), a lillstuga (small house) from Sunnanö, a visthusbod (food storehouse) from the 1500s, a threshing barn, a stolphärbre (post storehouse), a meadow barn and a sauna from the vicarage. There is also the Gustav Vasa Stone, raised in 1906, a charcoal-stack site where ten charcoal stacks (milor) have been laid in modern times using traditional methods, a ferry house where the large river barge was built in 1952, a rowing boat (eka) from 1901 and a steamboat landing stage.
The homestead has two museums. One shows objects used in farming, log-floating, smithing and other crafts, and the other shows household objects, for example for cooking, spinning and cheese-making. The association keeps its archive on the site, is responsible for the steamboat landing stage on the Lillälven and runs the Pilbo smithy with smithing courses. The farm is used for midsummer celebrations, music events and open-air services.
