About the museum
Vetlanda museum was founded in 1970 on the basis of the art collections of the local heritage society Njudungs (Njudungs hembygdsförening) and of Vetlanda town, in which Småland artists were chiefly represented. The collection was later expanded with contemporary Swedish art, and the museum began to show exhibitions on local cultural history.
Since 1985 the museum has been housed in the former courthouse (tingshuset) in Apoteksparken. The building was erected in 1938 to designs by Karl Karlström and Karl W. Ottesen, and the park was laid out in 1861–1862.
The museum's collections include contemporary Swedish art, archive material, photographs and cultural history objects connected with Vetlanda. The museum arranges exhibitions with children's trails and activities, and has a creative workshop for all ages.
