About the museum
Albert Engströmsgården is Hult's homestead museum (hembygdsgård) by Hult Church in Eksjö Municipality. The writer and illustrator Albert Engström was born in 1869 in Bäckafall in Lönneberga parish. In 1878 the family moved to Hult, where his father became station master at the Nässjö–Oskarshamn Railway, and Engström grew up in the district that he later often portrayed.
On the farm are Engström's parents' home, the cottage Malla på Mons stuga (Malla at Mons's cottage), which he wrote about, and several older buildings from Hult that contain museum objects from the district. By Hult Church is the poorhouse (fattigstugan) in authentic condition, and in the churchyard is Albert Engström's grave. Hult Local Heritage Society (Hults hembygdsförening) was formed in 1945 and gathered the buildings around the farm.
In summer the Engström plays (Engströmsspelen) are performed on the farm's outdoor stage by the Hult amateur players (Hultamatörerna), and the farm also marks National Day and Midsummer, among other occasions. Guided visits to the buildings can be booked in advance by telephone; otherwise visitors are welcome to look around the farm and the surroundings on their own.
