About the museum
The Ortsmuseum Rüthi is located in the village district of Büchel and consists of two houses. In the “Schwärzerles-Theres-Hus”, the visit leads into the world of the great-grandparents from more than a hundred years ago: the residence is furnished with a bedroom, children's room, kitchen, sewing room, carpentry workshop, laundry room and stable, and displays numerous objects from the often arduous daily life of the Rhine Valley (Rheintal) village population. The parlor can be booked through the Altstätten civil registry office as a wedding room for civil marriages.
Across the road, in the “Altes Schulhüsli”, changing exhibitions on local and regional history are held. The museum opened in 1997 and is looked after by the Museum Commission of the Municipality of Rüthi.
