About the museum
In the middle of the village of Sennwald, hidden behind the Gasthof zur Traube, stands a low house with a shallow-pitched roof (Tätschhaus). It is a typical 17th-century Rhine Valley house of the kind once lived in by day laborers, smallholders and weavers, and today it houses the Textil- und Heimatmuseum, which opened in 1961.
The exhibition shows life and work in the Rhine Valley in furnished rooms: a farmhouse parlor from around 1870, a bedroom from around 1808, a weaving and spinning room from the period 1770 to 1870 and an embroidery workshop with a frame pantograph from about 1870. In addition there is a model of Schloss Forstegg as it looked around 1630, a mill from 1797 from Sax, a dairy kitchen and a hammer forge with workshop. A rich collection of literature on textiles and local history complements the rooms.
