About the museum
The Pantheon Basel has existed in Muttenz since 2008 and sees itself as a "forum for classic cars" and the largest classic car centre in Switzerland. Under one roof it combines a museum of the history of mobility, a Classic Garage with restoration, upholstery, trade and classic car rental, a restaurant and large event spaces in the rotunda.
The tour of the museum begins on the first floor and leads along a ramp through the development of locomotion: from quirky-looking wooden running machines to the oldest automobiles on display, such as a de Dietrich vis-à-vis from 1901, to vehicles of the 1960s. Labels and audiovisual presentations explain eras and special vehicles. The exhibits change occasionally because they travel to exhibitions and new vehicles are added.
The permanent exhibition is supplemented each year by two changing special exhibitions in the upper part of the ramp. Historic vehicles belonging to private individuals are also parked in the rental parking spaces and halls.
