About the museum
The Puppenmuseum Jeannine originated in Güttingen in Thurgau: the doll collection of the photographer Jeannine Le Brun, together with Baroness Alexa von Koenig-Warthausen and Jolanda and Kurt Schmid-Andrist, became a museum that still bears her name. It opened in 1973, later moved to Schloss Girsberg in Kreuzlingen, and according to the castle is the oldest doll museum in Switzerland. Today it is located on the ground floor of the Kulturscheune.
On display are around 500 rare dolls from various countries, as well as historical toys and toy automata. The “Kollektion Trésor” in the former Torkel (wine press) opened on November 29, 2020; it goes back to the toy and doll collection of Marguerite Stohler-Daeniker and also includes fragile, mostly wax, testimonies of Alpine folk piety, including wax works by Peter Franzl.
In the Zeppelin Room, the original furniture from the study and objects from family possessions commemorate Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin, who spent his youth at Girsberg. The castle is first mentioned in 1473, came to the Zeppelin family in 1840, and has been owned by the Schmid-Andrist family since 1983. The residential buildings on the estate are privately occupied and can only be viewed from the outside.
