About the museum
La Tuor – Romansh for "the tower" – is a residential tower in the heart of Samedan, first mentioned in documents in 1281. It originally had four storeys and served noble families as a residence; for a time the Sur Funtauna Merla court also had its seat here. Later the tower was turned into a prison, and then into an archive.
Since 1980 the tower has belonged to the municipality. In the 1990s it housed a youth centre. In 2009/2010 the listed building was renovated and extended in order to open it to the public. Since December 2010 the tower has served as the cultural centre of the foundation Fundaziun La Tuor, which cooperates with the Chesa Planta.
Today the house shows changing exhibitions across several floors on crafts, design, architecture and settlement building. The themes are developed locally together with curators from the area and concern the past, present and future of Southern Graubünden. They are accompanied by lectures, guided tours and excursions.
