Om museet

The museum was established in 1980 on the initiative of the Bezirksheimatmuseum Spittal an der Drau association. It is housed in the so-called Bruggerhaus, an old fisherman's house from the 17th century on the shore of Lake Millstatt, built as a typical Carinthian smoke-room house with a steep roof.

In 2008 the house passed to the market municipality of Seeboden. At the end of 2009 the museum was closed, and in summer 2011 it reopened on private initiative.

The exhibition tells of professional fishing on the lake and of the fishing family who lived in the Bruggerhaus. On display are fishing boats, nets and other fishing gear, hand-forged fish spears, specimens of native fish species as well as photos and certificates. In addition, the museum offers insights into the underwater world of Lake Millstatt.

By car via the Tauern Autobahn A10, exit Millstätter See, turn left towards Seeboden; at the first roundabout take the first exit towards Hotel ROYAL X.
