About the museum
The mill and sawmill of Cal Pal, by the river in La Cortinada, bear witness to the activity that for centuries harnessed the power of water in the Ordino valley to transform natural resources. Both buildings date from the late 16th and early 17th centuries and stopped operating around the 1960s.
In 1996 they reopened as an interpretation centre, with all the original elements restored. Visits are always guided: at the sawmill visitors see how timber was cut with an old water-powered saw, with the wheel and the other parts that make it work, and at the mill the transformation of wheat into flour is explained using an original stone millstone. An explanatory video completes the demonstration.
The centre opens only in summer, in July and August, and is one of the museums that accept the PassMuseu.
