About the museum
Casa Rull in Sispony was the home of one of the wealthiest farming families of the parish of La Massana. The building was constructed in 1623 and was permanently inhabited until 1920. At some point in the 19th century a fire, which started in the baking oven, damaged the upper half of the house; when it was rebuilt, the roof changed from four slopes to two.
In traditional Pyrenean societies the house was the central element: heritage and family came before the individual, marriages were arranged between families, and up to three generations could live under the same roof, along with farmhands, day labourers and maids. The building is therefore organised around the work of the fields and the livestock, with a ground floor, two upper floors and the loft, where fruit, herbs and, in later years, tobacco were stored and dried.
Josep Perich Puigcercós, the last owner, signed an agreement with the Government of Andorra to turn the house into a house-museum, which opened on 9 June 2000. Today it displays the furniture, tools and rooms that explain the family and social organisation of rural life in Andorra up to the 20th century. It is part of the Rural Habitat Route, together with the Museu Casa Cristo and the Museu Casa d’Areny-Plandolit. Since 2021 the ticket office space has hosted small displays by young artists from the country.
