About the museum
The Centre d’Art d’Escaldes-Engordany occupies a building constructed between 1932 and 1934, an example of Andorran granite architecture designed by the Catalan architect Celestí Gusí at the request of the monks of Montserrat. The building later served as a car park for the Hotel Valira and as a school, and then became the country’s first cinema, the Cinema Valira.
Today it is the permanent home of the work of the Catalan sculptor Josep Viladomat and of a collection of models of Andorran Romanesque art, known as the Museu Viladomat. In 2026 the Viladomat collection, of around fifty works, was expanded with a bronze bust of Dr Josep Estadella.
Temporary exhibitions and a cultural programme for all audiences take place on the second floor. The centre also offers activities for children and educational workshops for schools.
