About the museum
The visitor centre Med dvemi vodami is dedicated to the natural heritage of Međimurje and to the need to preserve it. It is located in the small settlement of Križovec, at Trg međimurske prirode 1, the first Croatian square dedicated to nature, where the headquarters of Međimurska priroda, a public institution for nature protection founded by Međimurje County, are also located. The project was co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund.
On the ground floor of the centre there are two modern galleries with permanent interpretive displays, a souvenir shop and the entrance information desk. In the surroundings are the interpretive log cabin “Moj hrast Adam” and the children’s playground “Rječica”.
The exhibition tells what a mrtvica (oxbow lake) is, whether Međimurje has its own bakalar, why the bregunice must be protected, who the laporaši are, what the legend of the Drava water sprite is about, who the fljojsari are, which tropical-looking bird flies over Međimurje, and why the kockavica and the crnkasta sasa are endangered species. The centre is part of the Ekomuzej Međimurje network.
