About the museum
In the town of Pag, needle lace has been made for centuries. The best known is Pag lace, which was inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2009. Lace accompanies the people of Pag throughout their lives and symbolises both the beauty and the hardship of life on the island of stone and salt.
The Galerija paške čipke has operated since 1998, organised by the Društvo paških čipkarica “Frane Budak”. It is housed in the stone building of the Kneževa palača (Rector’s Palace), where old photographs of Pag lacemakers are displayed alongside the lace. Visitors can see how lace is made.
The collection includes lace from different periods: replicas of Pag lace based on old designs by Frane Budak, textile items from the interior of a Pag house, parts of clothing worn by the people of Pag, and the newest works.
