Muzej soli Nin

Small museum of the Solana Nin (Nin Saltworks) with photographs, old tools, carts and an interactive model of the nature park, plus a documentary film about salt.

Opening hours unknownAdmission €6

About the museum

Solana Nin produces salt naturally, using sun, sea and wind, and according to the saltworks, production can be traced back more than 1,500 years. This is attested by archaeological finds from the Liburnian period, a Roman sluice gate, the bora wind from the Velebit, healing mud and more than 200 bird species.

Within the saltworks is a small museum, the Kuća soli (Salt House). Black-and-white photographs from the past, old tools, carts once used to transport salt from the basins to the warehouse, and an interactive model of the nature park show the past and present of the saltworks. Visitors can also watch a documentary film in Croatian with German and English subtitles. Among the exhibits are the rakes used to gather salt and the carts and wooden packing equipment, because salt is still harvested by hand today.
