About the museum

The Interpretacijski centar pomorske baštine otoka Krka opened in 2018 in the historic core of Krk town, below Pjanka Square, as part of the project “Mala barka 2”, co-financed by the programme Interreg V-A Slovenija – Hrvatska 2014–2020. It is linked to the workshop and the ship model museum “Leut” of Željko Skomeršić.

The permanent display gives a historical overview of seafaring on the island, from late antiquity through important underwater archaeological sites and the development of medieval navigation, to the appearance of steamships and shipbuilding in the mid-20th century.

Visitors can see nautical instruments, tools for building ships, old maritime charts, atlases and manuals, and models from the Skomeršić collection. Alongside the display are a model-making workshop, an educational app for simulating sailing, and photo and video material from traditional regattas. The centre is also linked to the traditional pasara boat built for regattas and festivities in the Kvarner Gulf maritime area.
