About the museum
The Zavičajna etnografska zbirka (Local Ethnographic Collection) is set up in Kornić, a village east of the town of Krk, in a traditional 19th-century stone building. Its display shows village life of a hundred years ago. It was set up and opened in summer 2007 by Katedra Kornić.
The collection has more than 700 exhibits. On the ground floor, in the konoba (cellar), are a cooperage workshop, tools for working the land and raising livestock, equipment for making cheese and storing oil, and a small collection of scales. On the stone terrace (balatura) are an old-fashioned toilet and a bread oven. On the first floor, in the residential part, you can see the traditional kitchen with its hearth, water vessels, a hand mill for corn, shelves for kitchenware, props of folk piety, a collection of musical instruments and folk costumes.
