About the museum
Kuća Bukovac is the birthplace and museum of Vlaho Bukovac (Cavtat, 1855 – Prague, 1922), one of the most important Croatian painters and a pioneer of Croatian modern painting. During a cosmopolitan life spent in America and in European cities, Bukovac often returned home to Cavtat, where he left a large part of his works.
The birthplace is a typical civic two-storey stone house from the late 18th and early 19th centuries, with a small garden on the south façade and a spacious rear garden to the north. It is run by the Muzeji i galerije Konavala, an institution founded by the Municipality of Konavle in 1997.
