About the museum

The Memorial Centre opened on 2 May 2013 in the centre of the city, on the 18th anniversary of the shelling of Zagreb, in memory of all those killed and wounded in the attacks on the city centre and the civilian population. It is run by the Muzej grada Zagreba.

The permanent exhibition shows the attacks by the Yugoslav People’s Army (JNA) and rebel Serbs on Zagreb as the political, social, economic and strategic centre of the Republic of Croatia during 1991 and 1995. The events are documented by press photographs of the attacks, Croatian and foreign newspaper articles, documents, video animations of air strikes and documentary films.

A soundscape and light effects evoke the wartime atmosphere in the city and the country. The centre is on the first floor of the building at Ulica Frana Petrića 4.
