About the museum
Moneterra is the money museum of the Croatian National Bank. In a simple, contemporary and stimulating way it brings visitors closer to the history of money, the work of banks, personal finance, monetary policy and the role and tasks of central banks. It is located on level -1 of the building next to Europski trg in Zagreb.
The permanent exhibition is divided into four zones with exhibits, video content, games and opportunities for research. The zone “Abeceda novca” follows the development of money and of the institutions that made trade possible; “Banka, središnja banka i ja” explains the operations of banks and their supervision; “Epizode financijskog stresa” deals with inflation, crises and fraud; and “Budućnost novca i financija” addresses technological, climate and demographic change.
Alongside the permanent exhibition the museum organises occasional exhibitions, lectures, workshops for children and educational programmes for primary and secondary schools. The architect Ante Vrban received an international award in the category of interior design of public spaces for the interior design of the museum.
